Big Bad Wolf Studio

What we offer

Housed in a straw bale building, the studio has two rooms; the control room and the performance area. The control room contains the shiny electronics and the performance area houses the things to hit, strum and generally make a racket with.

All recording is carried out using the latest version of Steinberg's Cubase software running on a rock solid Apple Mac. The hardware between you and the software is a Yamaha mixing desk with high quality preamps and analogue/digital converters. All cables are fully balanced and screened so no hum, no hiss, no compromise. Up to 12 tracks of analogue source material can be recorded simultaneously but the number of individual tracks available is, theoretically, limitless.

A number of high quality software effects are available incuding Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3 and Waves GTR amp simulation, Natural Studios NSKit7 drum samples (simply the most realistic drum sample sets we've ever heard!), various soft synths, reverbs, delays, etc.

Hardware available includes a good selection of microphones (including AKG Big Drum set, Shure SM48, SM57, SM57 Beta, SE4400), drum kit, a choice of guitar amps (including one 1960's vintage hand wired, all valve, 100W head & cab and a hand built valve combo). The use of a wide selection of guitars and basses is also possible if you ask very nicely! These include Gibson, Tokai, and Ibanez six string electrics, an Aria electric 12 string and several basses and acoustics.

Studio gear is contantly being updated with the latest versions of software and improved hardware chosen for reliability and quality of sound.

We have worked with bands that have been to high end professional studios and been disappointed with the end result. If the equipment in such studios is not the problem then it must be something else. So, no exhaustive gear list here, just an assurance that what we use is tried & tested and that we'll do our utmost to get the most out of it, and out of you.

If you want proof of what we do here at BBW, check out the news page for links to bands we are currently working with and for testimonials.

In addition to recording, BBW can also offer mixing & mastering services together with advice on CD duplication vs replication.
